Flashes of light alerted me first drug my pillow from the bed grabbed my kindle and my phone quietly raced down the hall trying to get to her before the first thunder boom. She met me in the hall eyes wide with fear as our house shook from the fierce wind and thunder. Moving all of the stuffies aside making space for the only one who can bring comfort- me Lights flicker and go out sound machine quiet but because we hold each other close we find peace and sleep The sun shines light on the damage limbs down trees uprooted the worst storm in eight years thousands without power including us Panic a family of gamers and youtubers who live online trapped in days of old how will we survive? Mom pulls out all the stops board games 3D puzzles beaded geckos books legos picnic A day that "sucked" was actually a day of fun of bonding of slowing down. No power, no fun? Not if you pivot from your view of fun and look at it as an adventure.
Yesterday was an adventure, that’s for sure. We were without power for 17 hours AND had a heat advisory. We are lucky to have a basement to stay cool in and a house full of things to do. My daughter struggled, but at the end of the day told me that it really wasn’t so bad-and that I made it fun. I’ll take that as a win from any 10 year old!
I took a moment to reflect on that day and wrote a poem. Hope you enjoyed it.
What would you do if you had 24 hours without power? Comment and share! If I had been by myself, I would have definitely read and napped all day.
Now time for the good stuff!
Reading Updates
Last week, my daughter and I found a new game on Roblox that CONSUMED us, but I did still manage to finish 6 books!
You can read more about the books I read and my thoughts on them at my blog, mrsbookdragon.com (you can click the image below to get there). My favorite read? FOREVER IS NOW by Mariama J Lockington. You need to read her books if you haven't yet.
Goals
In terms of what I want to read this week…I feel a little indecisive so it looks like a week full of mood reading. Not sorry.

Writing Updates
Welp, writing isn’t happening. BUT, I am reading MAGIC WORDS by Cheryl Klein and I listened to PERFECTIONISM V PROCRASTINATION a podcast by Fiction Writing Made Easy-any perfectionists out there who procrastinate out of fear of messing up? Anyone? I once told my mom I was a perfectionist and she laughed at me because I am so messy. I tried to explain that it was the fear of accomplishing a task correctly that led me to just not do the thing, but she didn’t believe me. So, I feel so seen here. I also have some books on perfectionism and a workbook-growth is coming.
Goals
Read Magic Words
Schedule writing time IN MY CALENDAR
Make a timeline of manuscript
Write a poem a day-even a short one
Read beta read and provide blurb
Creativity
I crocheted a book sleeve this week! I also thought it was funny that I took a picture with a book titled WORK IN PROGRESS…as this was my work in progress. Ha!
