If We Were Having Coffee
I'm overwhelmed. Ready for fall! Read for reading updates and new adventures!
if we were having coffee I’d stand in line forever pouring over the menu do I try something new or stick to the tried and true? if we were having coffee I’d be a little awkward You’ve only existed on a screen what if you find me odd? am I even likable? what if I say something wrong? if we were having coffee I would warm as my cup cooled we would share books goals and eventually life bonded through words, our story would form. if we were having coffee I would leave feeling energizes buzzing from the caffeine and socializing my cup once empty now full.
The poem above was posted on Ethical ELA’s prompt WEEKEND COFFEE SHARE on April 2, 2023. It is dedicated to my writing friends that I’ve met online and would love to sit down and coffee with one day.
Who would you want to have coffee with that you haven’t met in person?
Overwhelmed
Alright. Time for some honesty here. Some word vomit.
I am overwhelmed. That’s the best word I can find for what I am feeling anyway.
School has started and is in full swing.
I have new responsibilities at school, which I love, but are taking more energy than I expected.
I have a new podcast and bookclub with a friend that kicked off this month.
Legit KidLit is back, so getting back into all that has been different.
Books. So many books I want (and need to read).
Journaling…for my mental health…and I keep forgetting so I keep beating myself up over forgetting.
Family functions.
How are you doing?
Fall Excitement
All that to say, I am very excited for fall. I love this time of year, the cooler mornings and evenings, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and the cozy vibes. Even though it’s still pretty toasty during the day, I am reading for warm drinks and warm clothes.
I do have some plans for a fall festival in a couple weekends with my mom and I cannot wait!
Alright…let’s talk books!
Books I Read and Hope To Read
You can read my reviews on my blog… but here’s the short and sweet version.
THE PROBABILITY OF EVERYTHING wrecked me. WRECKED ME. I devoured it in one day (never happens anymore) and even read it while I went for a walk (full on book in hand walking) and CRIED.
The other books were also really good too! Neil Gaiman is always a good read, ACE OF SPADES was a “fun” mystery with some good twists and UNPREGNANT was good for a new perspective. I read it as part of my Banned Book Club on Fable and am so glad it was chosen.
This week, I know I will be immersed in the INHERITANCE GAMES series because I bought the first three books today. IN THE KEY OF US is a reread for my Read to Write KidLit book club (join our newsletter here) and I can’t wait to talk with the author Mariama J Lockington about her writing craft!
What have you been reading?
