Summer break is over. A new school year begins with a letter to my future students.

Dear students,

I have one word for you
a word to show my hope 
my goal
my why 

Empower

I want you to be…

Empowered to be yourself
                      to take risks
                      to do great things
                      to conquer it all 
                      to stand up for others
                      to try your best
                      to create
                      to share your greatness

I see you hiding from your peers
I see you scared of failure
But I also see that you are strong
                                               creative
                                               valuable

Middle school is hard
                                       for everyone
and that's why I am here
to empower you all
to be your best self
to love your best self.
Go ahead...empower yourself.

My last week of summer break! It’s always a bitter sweet time-missing lazy days and extra time with my daughter but also excitement with a new year. How many people get to have a job that they start over every year? I love it. Don’t get me wrong, it can be trying and exhausting, but I do love my job so much.

Bookdragon Diaries-My Last Week of Summer Vacay

I thoroughly enjoyed all of the books I read last week. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be YOUR PLANTATION PROM IS NOT OKAY by Kelly McWilliams. The rage in that book! My emotions were a mess and I learned a lot, reflected a lot, and think you should read it too.

My upcoming books are so good too. I look forward to each one. UNPREGNANT is one I am reading with my Banned Book Club on Fable (message me for a link to join) and look forward to some good discussions with that one. I am reading WARRIOR GIRL UNEARTHED with another book club and everyone so far has loved it.

Last week, I asked what book I should read next and it was a tie… THESE VICIOUS GAMES and HELL BENT. So, I am reading THESE VICIOUS GAMES first, and then will move on to HELL BENT! I am really excited for both of these.

Writing Life

My writing life is again…not really happening. My goals are pretty much the same that they’ve been the last couple weeks:

• Read Magic Words by Cheryl Klein

• Beta read for a friend and provide a blurb

• Critique a writing group member’s writing

• Write a poem a day - I just went to the library and picked out a couple of poetry collections. I thought I would try to read a poem and write one each night.
