Top Five Books Not Set in the Western World

Weekly Blog Post: Top Five Wednesday

The majority of books I read are set in the Western world (American or Europe) or have a "western" feel. I like this list as it gives some diversity and culture to our reading. Some of these books I have read, some have been on my TBR for awhile, and some I recently found and are now on my TBR. Have you read any? Any I should add?

1. A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park: A book that has been on my list for about a year. I need to read it. Soon.

2. I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai: I read this book last year and loved it. I have a post about it here.

3. A Single Shard by Linda Sue Park: Another Linda Sue Park book. I found several by her and they are all nonfiction and I will definitely be adding them to my TBR. This book takes place in Korea.

4. A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah: A book about a child soldier in Sierra Leonne. Sounds really tough to read, but powerful and important.

5. Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr: A lot of the social studies teachers at my school read this book when they teach Japan. They all highly recommend this book and I really need to get to it!
