Review: Standard Models - Ordinary Gods A comedy about a Kpop group and their Fans by Diana Huang
Comedy and Kpop.
Hyunki was a typical high school student preparing for an uncertain future. She crosses paths with members of STModL (Standard Model), a nine member all male K-pop idol group. They support, protect, and save each other as she navigates the thin line between fame and ordinary life. Standard Models is written as a fun silly k-drama style fan fiction fantasy of a girl being besties with an all male Kpop idol group as we explore adolescent stresses and multicultural joy.

Meet Diana Huang
Born in Southern California to Chinese-American immigrant parents, she struggled academically and socially in her k-6 years. But ever since kindergarten, she had developed a strong passion for the visual arts that brought joy, friendship, and meaning to her life.
Eventually, she went on to study at University of Southern California(BFA Fine Art, 2001) and then later at Otis College of Art & Design(BFA Digital Media, 2007). She has been working in various art and non-art industries while also creating her own stories from her own story worlds.
Since 2003, Diana Huang has also been teaching art to pass on the knowledge, experiences, and passion for the arts through an Intro to Cartooning class every Sunday at Irvine Chinese School. She went on to get a Masters in Teaching Degree from USC(2015) so she could be a better art teacher, and teacher in general. She tutors in academic subjects from k-12, leads workshops, summer camp sessions, and stays connected to all kinds of people around the world on the internet.
My Review
I was honored to be sent a book by the author Diana Huang in exchange for an honest review through the Read Your World organization.
This was a quick read that had humor, Kpop, growing up, and a few serious topics as well. I enjoyed following Hyunki and her journey with Standard Models-they were funny. I think teenage readers who are curious about Kpop or the Korean culture would find this book enjoyable.
I hope you grab a copy and read it for yourself.
