Crack the Code
Review: How I Became a Spy by Deborah Hopkinson
The Lit Review Crew received this book from the author as an ARC and I am so happy to be able to share this book with the world.
I gave this book four stars. The mystery, the quotes, the codes, and the characters were all strong and well-developed.
Here is what I enjoyed:
The different kinds of codes
The time period and setting-World War II London with mention of France
Combination of fictional and historical figures
Heroic dogs
Sherlock
Intense beginning
SOE Manuel
My favorite quotes:
“I wasn’t thinking about becoming a spy that night.”
“I feel like this poor fruit: bruised and battered, but not yet fallen.”
“It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data...One begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts.”
If you are looking for a fun mystery with a strong historical fiction aspect, look no further.
Happy reading!
