10 Bookish Facts About Me (Updated)
Why did I choose the name "book dragon?" Read for the answer and more bookish facts about me.
Meet the Bookdragon!
This is an updated post from my original, which was published July 19, 2016!
Here’s the original:
And now for the updated version!
I initially chose the name “book dragon” after seeing some funny mugs about not being a bookworm. I was born in the year of the Dragon. I have a fiery temper. I am pretty obsessive over books and don’t loan them well. I hoard them and my tbr pile is ridiculous. I read quickly and devour as many as I can. See? Book dragon. As cheesy as it is, it is me!
And now for 10 bookish things about me! Comment with one of your bookish things!
1. Favorite Books and Authors
I will read anything by VE Schwab. Anything.
Thone of Glass by Sarah J Maas is my favorite by that author and is the perfect example of the kinds of books I love.
Favorite middle grade author is Kwame Alexander (Crossover is my fav by him). I got to meet him too!
Favorite young adult author is Kalynn Bayron (My Dear Henry is my fav).
Series: Once Upon a Broken Heart series by Stephanie Garber.
2. Favorite Genres
Speculative Fiction. Give me all the fantasy, science fiction, and horror! I love everything that isn’t real life (but still feels like it). Recently, I’ve been loving young adult, but honestly any age group is good as long as it is a good book. I also like strong emotions and tough topics-make me feel all the feelings!
3. Reading Pace
I am a “polygamous” reader as in I read many, many books at once. Sometimes this hurts my “pace” as I can get stuck and not actually finish anything for awhile. It also helps my “pace” as I can finish many when I am on a roll. I do feel like overall I read very quickly and audiobooks are always on 1.5 speed.
4. Bookmarks
I would like to say I am a “anything works” bookmark person because they seem cool…and it used to be me. But now I collect bookmarks, I make bookmarks on my 3d printer, and I love picking the perfect one for each read. So, give me all the bookmarks! Real bookmarks! (And I will NEVER dog ear.)
5. Sharing the Love
I cannot help but talk about books in anyway I can to anyone who will listen.
Here are the multitudes of ways that I share my reading:
Personal book club: The Brunch Bunch Book Club (everyone should have bookish friends in real life)
Social Media (@mrs_bookdragon): Instagram, X, Threads, Bluesky, Facebook, Substack
YouTube: Legit KidLit and Bookdragon
Podcast/substack: Read to Write KidLit
Posting my reads on my classroom door
6. Bookshelves
My pride and joy are my bookshelves-made by my husband for our anniversary. Seriously, they are so gorgeous (and overflowing).
Currently they are organized by color for the books I have read (top rows) and then the rest are books I need to still read-pretty much in any order.
I also have a shelf for all of my favorite fantasy reads and a shelf for my Book of the Month books (because I should really read them…).
Most of the books here are unread…don’t judge!
7. Food and Drink
While reading, it’s coffee with a lot of creamer. I love oat milk creamer! Or, if I need something more refreshing, a sparkling water.
Snack wise? I am not sure…I guess since it’s summer while I am writing this I will go with a popsicle or ice cream. Something cool. But I really try not to snack!
8. Obsessive TBR Pile
Sometimes I don’t read and instead…look for more books. Netgalley. Edelweiss. Libby. Hoopla. Amazon. Barnes and Noble. Bookshop.org. Target. I get lost anywhere and everywhere.
9. Comfort Zone: Hammock
I love to read in my hammock outside. It’s a perfect spot to either get some sun (in the morning) or in the shade (in the afternoon).
10. Tracking My Reading
I have a lot of ways to track my reading-I am trying to find my favorite way.
Goodreads-I use Goodreads because I have a lot of friends on there and love to see what they read. However, I am using it less and less.
Storygraph-I am loving this tracker because of the charts. I wish more of my friends would switch!
Fable-This is such a fun idea that combines book clubs and tracking. I wish I used it more, but for some reason it slips my mind and I don’t interact on there much.
Reading Journal-I do love a good notebook where I can doodle and reflect.
Notion-I love what I can do on Notion and have debated on using it instead of other digital trackers and even my journal. I don’t think I will get rid of my journal though. I am still exploring this “notion” ha!
Thanks for stopping by and getting to know me more. What do we have in common?
Lovely to get to know you, and I love the way you introduced yourself! Book dragon is a new word for me and I love it 😃
We both love books, but you're much more organized than I am! I just finished Warrior on the Mound by Sandra Headen. Highly recommend it. I prefer historical fiction. Enjoyed your post.
